Barn Quilts of the Boonslick Area
Celebrating art and heritage across three Missouri counties
The Boonslick Barn Quilt Project began in 2001 with a simple but powerful idea: celebrate the rich agricultural heritage of the Boonslick region while encouraging visitors to explore rural Missouri. Started by the Boonslick Area Tourism Council—a group of people who deeply love this area—the project was created to promote agricultural tourism across Saline, Howard, and Cooper counties.
What started as a community vision has grown into one of Missouri's most recognizable barn quilt trails.
A Grassroots Missouri Original
The Boonslick Area Tourism Council is proud to be the pioneer of the barn quilt movement in Missouri. This project is 100% grassroots and powered entirely by volunteers. A dozen dedicated council members do it all—scouting suitable barns, designing quilt blocks, painting each piece by hand, and installing them on barn walls throughout the region.
Every quilt tells a story. Every barn adds character. And every mile traveled connects visitors to the people and places that define the Boonslick.
More than a Drive - an Experience!
As you tour the Boonslick Barn Quilts, take time to fully enjoy the journey. Stop for lunch, browse local shops, and explore the communities along the way. Every visit helps support local businesses and keeps rural tourism thriving.
The Boonslick Area Tourism Council publishes a visitor’s guide, which is available at Missouri Tourism Centers. View the most recent issue here! Then use the maps on the individual County pages to plan your tour of the Boonslick.
